Marauder IIC

Like the Mad Cat, the Marauder is another mech with a highly distinctive look (as well as an interesting history).

Design-wise, the tree figure is quite similar to the Mad Cat – all that needs to be done is the addition of another flap for the top-mounted particle cannon, and a lengthening of the leg flaps. These changes increase the grid size to 40×40:

On hindsight, having a river separating the cockpit and arms from the rest of the body was a bad decision. The river positions the legs too far behind the cockpit, giving it a hunched-over look. A better method would be to take out the river entirely, and give the space to the arms and cockpit; this would allow for more detail in the cockpit as well.

    Thank you!

No lack of big cannons in the Battletech universe, for sure!

    It looks good.
The cannon is a little big though. I think that if the cockpit were to come from the center of the square and the cannon from the side, the cannon could be thined out more giving it a closer resemblance to the real thing. What do you think?

  4. Wolf Says:

Yep – swapping the two would allow you to thin out the cannon, but at the same time you might just end up with a bulkier cockpit. Of course, if you use thinner paper (instead of thick florist foil of the kind used here), squishing the flap into a thinner cannon wouldn’t be a problem. :)

not referring to this model in particular but ok wolf, i am totally convinced that u can create any model with any number of appendages and what-nots u so wish. can u now please try to design something simpler … like a mammal? or a bird or something older folks can relate to … if it’s not too boring for u … :-)

p.s – sorry for jumping in like this. pls delete this post if
    necessary.

No worries about jumping in, Boon, valid comments are always welcome!

Doing mammals and birds aren’t really boring, but rather, I find it quite a bit more challenging because it’s difficult to come up with a distinctive look, particularly at the species level. Still, I’ve got some local fauna in mind, mostly of the finned variety, so I think you can expect to see something more familiar in the near future. :D
