Carnival of Origami #1: InCreasing Appreciation

Welcome to the first edition of the Carnival of Origami!

The name, InCreasing Appreciation, is one of a number of suggestions by dinogami. It’s a rather thought-provoking title, leading to questions for readers to ponder: Has the web done anything to enhance the appreciation of origami, locally or worldwide? The concept of sharing in origami has been bandied about for ages, but has the web done anything to promote this significantly? Or has the rather liberal nature of the web provoked practitioners of origami to adopt an even fiercer, more protective stance of their own work?

Starting off the carnival is an entry by Gerwin on his new blog, on the design of the anime character Roronoa Zoro.

Speaking of new blogs, Cupcake has also launched his own – All Folded Up in Cupcake Paper. Be sure to check it out!

Andreas has posted his rendition of David Petty’s pineapple (for which diagrams can be found online).

Challenges appear to be a recent theme as well. Stephen O’Hanlon sets up his
folding challenge for March – a human skull.

This place is also running a few challenges as well – participate at your own risk, as you might just be accused of being British, as well as a leecher.

So that’s all for the first edition. Share and enjoy!

Good job everybody! I’ve been busy, so I didn’t get a submission in, but I would like to next time. When will the next issue be?

  2. Wolf Says:

No idea yet, in a few months perhaps?

  3. Cupcake Says:

I wasn’t accused of being british. Eric simply called the forum “the british forum”…

And thanks for mentioning my blog! It’s all simple things so far, with crease patterns for all the models. I hope to have some better creations done soon.

  4. Wolf Says:

    I was being snarky. :)

Keep up the good work on your blog! Simplicity can be beautiful as well, not to mention less frustrating for those learning how to fold from CPs.

Hopefully I should get a new post up here soon, but that lovable four-legged critter is taking up quite a bit of my time at the moment.
